Hunger Action Center

Join the fight to end hunger with a high-energy session of activities at our Atlanta warehouse. As a Hunger Action Center volunteer, you may assist with a myriad of tasks including sorting and packing recently donated food, repackaging produce or grains for families, or boxing non-perishable items for seniors across Atlanta.

There are a number of projects that happen in our Hunger Action Center that all guarantee an amazing day of volunteering!

Community Food Centers

Our Community Food Centers are direct-to-families food pantries operated by the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its volunteers. Volunteers are an integral part of our work and help us get food directly to those in need. Volunteer tasks include sorting food, packing food boxes, restocking our shelves, and more! Specific tasks might vary, but we guarantee a fun, meaningful day of service.

Yes, we take volunteers 8 and up at the majority of our ongoing volunteer projects. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Chaperones must be present throughout the entire shift and volunteer alongside the youth. To add someone under the age of 18 to your registration, please email our team at volunteers@acfb.org.

If you are bringing a youth group, you must follow these chaperone requirements: 1 adult per every 4 youth age 8-11 and 1 adult per every 8 youth age 12-17.  

Please note special events generally have different age requirements. Make sure to check the website for those specific details or reach out to our team to ask. 

We consider a group to be 8 or more volunteers in a single shift. For groups of 8 and up, please fill out the Group Form on our website. After, someone from our team will follow up to help secure a date, work out details, and reserve the spots you need. Responses are typically received within 24 business hours.  Please note that during certain times of year, response times may be longer due to a higher-than-normal volume of requests.  

If you will have less than 8 people, please have each person register themselves under the Individual volunteer page.  

All adults must register for an opportunity themselves. To add any children to your reservation, please email us at volunteers@acfb.org or call 404-419-1727, and a member of our team can add them to your registration. Please note, you must first sign up for a volunteer shift before we can register a youth.

Please email the volunteer team at volunteers@acfb.org after you’ve completed your required hours, and we will be happy to provide proof of hours on letterhead.  Due to our high volume, please allow 3 business days for your letter. 

Atlanta Community Food Bank volunteers do need to stay for the entire shift to ensure we have enough hands to wrap up our project. If you are not able to stay until the end of the shift, please cancel your registration and sign up for another day.  

It is very important that volunteers arrive on time for their volunteer shift so we can maximize our efforts. Volunteers more than 30 minutes late for a volunteer shift will be unable to serve with us. While we do have a grace period, we ask that you make arriving on time a priority. We know Atlanta traffic can be challenging, so please make sure to give yourself enough time to get to our facility in case your commute is delayed.   

All volunteer opportunities require closed-toe closed-heel shoes.  Volunteers wearing Crocs, sandals, or any shoes not fully covering the feet will not be able to volunteer. As you will be working around food, please make sure to wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.   

Specific attire may vary by volunteer project. You can find those specifics listed under each project on our volunteer website.  

If you do not see a specific shift or date on the calendar, it means the date is either already full, or we are not offering volunteer shifts that day/time. Please do not show up unless you have registered for a shift.  

Absolutely. Just make sure to let the Volunteer team know when setting up your shift.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank does have conference space that groups may book to host meetings or eat before/after their volunteer shift at our main facility. Room space is subject to availability.  If you would like access to our space, please let the Volunteer team know when setting up your volunteer shift.
